AI Progetti’s New School Complex in Marcon is a testament to the power of visionary design and community-focused architecture. Nestled in the semi-urban landscape of Venice, this project redefines the concept of educational spaces. Designed to host 20 classes and up to 540 pupils, the complex combines functionality with an elegant architectural language. At its heart lies a philosophy of openness and inclusivity, creating a space that not only educates but also connects, serving as a vibrant hub for cultural and sporting events. The building’s sloped roofs, crafted from contemporary zinc-titanium surfaces, lend a sleek, modern edge while nodding subtly to traditional rural forms.

Rejecting the rigid confines of traditional classroom-corridor layouts, the school embraces flexibility and innovation, offering reconfigurable interiors that cater to evolving needs. Expansive green areas further elevate the design, providing students with immersive outdoor spaces for play, sports, and quiet reflection. These external spaces, including a southern garden for recreation, a shaded courtyard for reading, and a northern zone for structured physical activity, seamlessly integrate with the school’s interior, blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor.

The central atrium, a bold architectural highlight, is the beating heart of the school. This vibrant, multi-functional space connects the building’s levels with a dramatic tiered staircase, evoking the dynamic energy of spectator stands. Designed as a nexus for learning and interaction, it fosters a sense of community while maintaining a visual and physical link to the exterior.

Sustainability is woven into every facet of the project. As a Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB), the school achieves remarkable energy efficiency, ensuring a comfortable and healthy environment for students and staff while minimising its ecological footprint. Over 30% of the site is dedicated to green space, and low-impermeability materials enhance stormwater management. Certified as a Class IV building, the complex also meets stringent standards for public safety and resilience, offering strategic functionality during emergencies.

AI Progetti has crafted a masterpiece where form meets function in perfect harmony. Its geometric precision and minimalist elegance contrast beautifully with the surrounding residential area, transforming the school into a landmark of institutional sophistication. By merging cutting-edge design, sustainability, and a deep connection to its community, the Marcon School Complex stands as a beacon of educational and architectural excellence, setting the stage for the future of learning environments.
