Design Courier presents Temple of Thought, the design piece created by Davide Macullo for RHNH. A limited edition of twenty-four physical pieces paired with their 3D model versions for the Metaverse and twenty-four digital-only versions, Davide Macullo’s Temple of Thought draws on a profound conceptual notion.

The Temple of Thought is where time stops to leave space to think. It is a place where to find a quiet parenthesis, even without resting. If the rhythms and times of contemporaneity leave little space to ourselves, we must reclaim it. This is the concept of thought that guided Davide Macullo in the design of Temple of Thought, a wooden armchair designed to be inserted in public spaces where to sit, housed by an enveloping structure, while remaining in contact with the external nature glimpsed through the structure.

The art of nature and the awareness on how to cultivate a life in harmony with the planet infuses the creativity of Davide Macullo. In it, we find the idea of a slow pace, which we absorb according to our natural rhythms and that projects us towards serenity. As a design object, Temple of Thought is not only a symbolic place, but also and above all physical. Namely, it is “a real virtuality amalgamated with a virtual reality”.

The first Temple of Thought will be presented to the world in Switzerland on August 27. In the perspective of a commonality of thought that crosses and unites all the places of Earth, these singular furniture pieces will be placed in different public spaces of the world, where they will be crafted by local manufacturers with native woods. For this purpose, a map displaying where the Temples of Thought are placed will also be created. The aim of this project is to emphasize the belonging of every individual to humanity, regardless of the diversity of cultural, religious, economic and political environments.

Subsequently, RHNH will showcase a special home and a metaverse edition of Davide Macullo’s design masterpiece. The version made for RHNH is three meters high and has a diameter of about two and a half meters. At the center there is a round pouf, encased in a system of wooden modules covered with mohair wool featuring two layers of patterns by Macullo, of which one is a printed design and the other is embroidered. In addition, the singularity of the twenty-four pieces is also given by the color, unique for each one of them.

Therefore, the Temple of Thought is not only a piece of design furniture. Rather, it is a piece of conceptual design, where the worlds of design and art intersect and offer the background to an architectural space dedicated to the individual, both in the home environment and the Metaverse.

Davide Macullo

Davide Macullo’s journey began as a boy when, passionate about conceptual art and eager to learn new cultures, he started moving between Italy, Switzerland and the United States, up to covering forty-eight countries. During his career he has followed over two hundred projects at the atelier of the architecture master Mario Botta and about five hundred for his studio Davide Macullo Architects, founded in 2000. He has also received over eighty awards and obtained three hundred international publications. Davide Macullo’s search for an ideal space where man can live at ease has finally led him to change the very terms of his research, from space to place, so as to make each project truly unique. In 2017 he founded RossArte in Rossa, canton Graubünden, a project aimed at positively influencing the destiny of the entire valley, both from a human and spatial point of view. Here we can also find two of his most iconic projects: SWISSHOUSE Rossa, with an intervention by the artist Daniel Buren, and ISPACES, a series of meditation pavilions set in the forest.

RHNH

RHNH – an acronym for Rethinking Heritage Nature Home – is the very first Metaverse-native Made in Italy design brand, merging innovation with the tradition of Italian design and the language of nature. The concept of the project is to give the Metaverse a welcoming, elegant and liveable appearance, and, at the same time, to offer A&D professionals a space for creativity in the web3.

A multi-layer project, RHNH starts now from a hybrid furniture collection: the RHNH Signature Collection. This latter will be a cap-sized collection of 100 iconic pieces created by contemporary designers and architects. For this first release, Odilia Prisco, Davide Macullo and Luca Schieppati have been asked to imagine, through their creative identity, three design objects that recall the contact with nature within digital spaces. Each piece will be a limited edition of twenty-four, coming in a digital version compatible with all metaverses. Some of them will also be available with their physical counterpart made of sustainable maximum quality materials and numbered with the ID of the reference ownership token.

The limited edition is an added valuable factor as it allows creatives to think about objects outside the traditional marketing path, which is aimed at large-scale production. These objects are in fact designed to embody experiences, be they physical or digital. The result is an unprecedented narrative on the new possibilities of living. Both the project itself and the first three pieces of the RHNH Signature Collection will be presented during a series of events starting in September. At the moment RHNH is only in exclusive preview. However, the three objects of the first capsule are already bookable through selected channels or directly contactig RHNH
