In an exclusive insight into Odilia Prisco’s design piece for RHNH by the name of Shadow Armchair, Design Courier presents its signature features and the storytelling behind such a one-off armchair. Noteworthy, it is a limited edition of twenty-four pieces available worldwide in physical version with their digital 3D model counterparts to be inserted in the Metaverse and twenty-four digital-only pieces. Such a restricted production is already a first indication of the distinctiveness of the product.

Shadow Armchair is, as the name itself suggests, an armchair of singular characteristics, enclosed in the narration of the idea behind it told by its designer Odilia Prisco: “On a full moon night, when a silver trail shines on the sea and you hear a whale blow in the distance, near a bougainvillea the moonlight rests on things. It also caresses an armchair, touches the fabric and lingers whether to continue or not, and eventually chooses to stay ... The bougainvillea smiles, she stays as well. Every season the nature changes and, with it, the bougainvillea, while the moon returns, beautiful and splendid in its light, and from behind the bougainvillea finds the armchair to be different and again lingers and remains ... fascinated by the changing of the seasons and curious about the different fabric. The armchair becomes a small treasure chest where nature, the seasons and the beauty of the moon come together. The Shadow Armchair, made to remember the elements and bring with it a magical decision”.

As it emerges, Shadow Armchair brings the temporal dimension of the Earth and its seasons in the spaces of the Metaverse. And it does so following the shadow projected by the moon through the leaves of a plant. Indeed, in its digital version, the shadow of a bougainvillea over the armchair is constantly changing, all day and all year round, reflecting the movements of the satellite of our planet.

Meanwhile, also the physical version changes together with the passing of seasons. In fact, on the earthly world each piece harmonizes with the period of the year in which the physical version of the armchair has been created, according to the four seasons of the Italian calendar. Thus, the fabric, pattern and colour change to reflect the cyclic beauty of nature: lime green pure cotton with leaves for spring, red and fuchsia silk with leaves and flowers for summer, turquoise velvet with few leaves for autumn and, finally, purple aubergine mohair wool with dormant branches for winter.

Shadow Armchair is, in the ultimate analysis, a masterpiece of furniture in which is enclosed a narrative of change, both in its digital version and in the physical counterpart.

Odilia Prisco

Odilia Prisco is an international designer and consultant with a focus on high-end projects, such as mansions, castles, yachts, resorts and five-star hotels. After studying economics, Odilia entered the world of design almost unexpectedly, giving advice to property owners on the arrangement of art collections. In 2003 she founded her first company in the A&D sector, which eventually evolved into Studio IL10. The latter offers high-level solutions for international projects, such as the design of soft furnishings of several Riva yachts produced by the Riva Boatyard in Sarnico between 2009 and 2010. In 2017 her Luxury Green Villa project was included by Interni Magazine among the 100 world-best projects under construction. Currently, her work is directed on the fields of nature and technology in view of the new challenges of contemporary living.

RHNH

RHNH – an acronym for Rethinking Heritage Nature Home – is the very first Metaverse-native Made in Italy design brand, merging innovation with the tradition of Italian design and the language of nature. The concept of the project is to give the Metaverse a welcoming, elegant and liveable appearance, and, at the same time, to offer A&D professionals a space for creativity in the web3.

A multi-layer project, RHNH starts now from a hybrid furniture collection: the RHNH Signature Collection. This latter will be a cap-sized collection of 100 iconic pieces created by contemporary designers and architects. For this first release, Odilia Prisco, Davide Macullo and Luca Schieppati have been asked to imagine, through their creative identity, three design objects that recall the contact with nature within digital spaces. Each piece will be a limited edition of twenty-four, coming in a digital version compatible with all metaverses. Some of them will also be available with their physical counterpart made of sustainable maximum quality materials and numbered with the ID of the reference ownership token.

The limited edition is an added valuable factor as it allows creatives to think about objects outside the traditional marketing path, which is aimed at large-scale production. These objects are in fact designed to embody experiences, be they physical or digital. The result is an unprecedented narrative on the new possibilities of living. Both the project itself and the first three pieces of the RHNH Signature Collection will be presented during a series of events starting in September. At the moment RHNH is only in exclusive preview. However, the three objects of the first capsule are already bookable through selected channels or directly contactig RHNH
