Unveiling the RHNH project and the first limited-edition Signature Collection: “Metacyclo” by Luca Schieppati

Starting from the exclusiveness of the project, Design Courier introduces Metacyclo, the design piece by Luca Schieppati for RHNH. It is, in fact, a limited edition of twenty-four products globally available in physical version with their digital 3D model counterparts for the Metaverse and twenty-four digital-only versions. As for the piece itself, Metacyclo is a special edition of the well-known and award-winning exercise bike Ciclotte by Luca Schieppati, exclusively reinvented for RHNH. Attention to movement is thus brought into the Metaverse.

The original project, born as an expression of the contemporary dimension – where entertainment, work and exercise share a single breadth – is characterized by a fluid line, just like the spaces for which it was designed. Ciclotte derives, in turn, from the project of Ciclò that became part of the permanent collection of the Triennale Design Museum in Milan in 2007. Ciclò is an object of refined engineering designed to provide ease of movement, featuring an iconic circular shape reminiscent of the retro unicycles of the late ‘800.

Made of aluminum, iron, and carbon fiber in its physical version, Metacyclo is a masterpiece of Italian craftsmanship, blending with the context of nature as itself grew from the ground. Metacyclo features an acid-etched aluminum shell, a carbon fiber cover similar to the Ciclotte’s one and, most importantly, handmade iron roots sinking into the earth and making each one a truly unique piece. At the same time, it is powered by dynamo and magnetic induction The roots represent the connection with the earth – a value close to RHNH. Similarly, the rough and opaque materials with which it is built stand against the shiny surfaces of the world we see through the screens.

Ciclotte’s project already had some traits of innovation that we might connect to the Metaverse experience. In fact, the Ciclotte’s app allows its owners located around the world to challenge each other in real time bike rides through road routes displayed on their tablet mounted on the handlebars. Today, RHNH is working to make this possible for Metacylo within the digital world.

Overall, the technological approach of Ciclotte as well as its new version for RHNH is the result of extensive research on ergonomics. As a matter of fact, with this product experimentation on the convergence of nature, technology and design have been taken to the next level. On it, we enter into a realm where art and innovation come together.

Luca Schieppati

With a degree in Industrial Design at Milan Polytechnic in 2005, in 2007 Luca Schieppati became professor of Startup and Product Design at the European Institute of Design. In the same year Ciclò, a futuristic unicycle prototype designed to meet the need for sustainable urban mobility, entered the collection of the Triennale Design Museum in Milan. The innovative design project has also been displayed in several exhibitions in the cities of Florence, Madrid, Beijing, Shanghai and New York. Since then Luca has started new Ciclotte related projects and collaborations, such as Ciclotte-Pirelli, Ciclotte-Teckell – the first ever crystal exercise  bike – and, now, with RHNH.

RHNH

RHNH – an acronym for Rethinking Heritage Nature Home – is the very first Metaverse-native Made in Italy design brand, merging innovation with the tradition of Italian design and the language of nature. The concept of the project is to give the Metaverse a welcoming, elegant and liveable appearance, and, at the same time, to offer A&D professionals a space for creativity in the web3.

A multi-layer project, RHNH starts now from a hybrid furniture collection: the RHNH Signature Collection. This latter will be a cap-sized collection of 100 iconic pieces created by contemporary designers and architects. For this first release, Odilia Prisco, Davide Macullo and Luca Schieppati have been asked to imagine, through their creative identity, three design objects that recall the contact with nature within digital spaces. Each piece will be a limited edition of twenty-four, coming in a digital version compatible with all metaverses. Some of them will also be available with their physical counterpart made of sustainable maximum quality materials and numbered with the ID of the reference ownership token.

The limited edition is an added valuable factor as it allows creatives to think about objects outside the traditional marketing path, which is aimed at large-scale production. These objects are in fact designed to embody experiences, be they physical or digital. The result is an unprecedented narrative on the new possibilities of living. Both the project itself and the first three pieces of the RHNH Signature Collection will be presented during a series of events starting in September. At the moment RHNH is only in exclusive preview. However, the three objects of the first capsule are already bookable through selected channels or directly contactig RHNH
