INTERIOR & DÉCOR, but with a twist

A sea-found object designed in luxury condo format. The Turnberry Ocean Club by DKOR Interiors

A seamless transition between the land and the sea. This is the concept that inspired the DKOR Interiors project for this condominium in Turnberry Sunny Isles, Florida, designed for a family of five. The house is warm, welcoming and with a particularly modern design. At the structural level, the rooms that compose the condo are four bedrooms, five bathrooms, a great room, a studio and a family room. The common inspiration, given by a collection of underwater treasures, weaves a continuous thread that connects the environments in a coherent project.

Materiality and colours follow the same point of inspiration. The ambition, which the DKOR Interiors team turned into reality, was to recreate the feeling of “a sea-found object framed and encapsulated to ensure it is treasured and loved”. To this end, natural textures have been employed – such as stone, wood and coral – repeated in several spaces of the house, with highlighted outlines. The colour palette is also inspired by the natural gradient of the ocean, which takes the shades of gray-blue. Reflective mirrors, translucent glass and exclusive marble selections have also been widely used, giving the impression of touching the surface of a calm and peaceful ocean. Sparks of rust, petroleum blue and ecru, scattered here and there, remind us of sea creatures, corals and brilliant fish moving on the sandy bottom of the ocean. Finally, the bronze finishes and warm woods complete the palette and give an accent of warmth to the whole.

To give relevance to each part of the condo, DKOR Interiors used a series of special interventions, resulting in particular features that deserve to be underlined. Among these, the storage solution on the kitchen hallway, defined by a very fine and elegant design. But not only. The wooden cladding on the entrance foyer and the “creative division” between the common areas through the sliding door system also deserve attention.

The concept of continuity is not limited only to the rooms of the house, but also extends to the side and seemingly secondary spaces, such as the elevator foyer. In fact, the same wood carpentry that wraps around the entrance door of the elevator was repeated inside the house, so as to create a visual and emotional connection between the moment of entry and the exploration of spaces. In addition to wood carpentry and natural stone, the interior design has been enhanced with a slate blue accented wall. On a suspended leather console there is a glass box containing the clients’ object d’art by John A. Peralta.

The pivot of the housing structure is given by the great central room, where the kitchen, the living room and the dining room constitute a single block divisible into sections if necessary. The system of sliding doors allows the transition between spaces and a different configuration depending on the need of privacy. When superimposed, the doors open to the room, when closed they separate the living room and dining room from the kitchen. Since the common areas are interpreted as a single unit, the living room and dining room have the same use of marble in order to create a platform on which to exhibit works of art, open shelves and a prism-inspired console. The large-scale wall art creates a magnetic focal point, intense and colorful. Other focal points are those given by the pieces on the glass shelves, where the focus is on the amber accents of the material.
