With the collaboration between InterContinental Hotels Group – the major hotel company in the world in terms of number of rooms – and the architecture and design firm Campbell House, high-end Hôtellerie enters history. The intervention concerns the Château Mont Royal, a Louis XVI-style castle immersed in the forests of Chantilly, not far from the Ville Lumiere.

The construction of the historic building, originally designed as a hunting lodge, dates back to the 20th century when, according to sources, its first owner, the French composer Fernand Halphen, presented it to his wife so that every morning she could admire from her window the view from the highest promontory of Chantilly. The project was commissioned to the architect Guillaume Tronchet, in charge of drawing on the imagery of the forest, hunting and music, namely Halphen’s main passions. The building was completed in 1911, while in 1990 it was converted into a hotel. Soon the view enjoyed by Halphen’s wife will be offered to the guests of the renovated hotel, whose management has been taken over by the InterContinental Hotels Group.

Throughout history the castle has undergone numerous changes, including the addition of a theater modeled after the Opéra in Paris and the modernization of the interiors, with deluxe rooms and grand halls. Today the structure is seeing a complete redesign by Campbell House, with the reopening scheduled in 2024 under the new name of InterContinental Chantilly Château Mont Royal. The studio team, led by Creative Director Jese Medina-Suarez, is in charge of designing one hundred and seven rooms and suites, two restaurants, a bar, a terrace and eleven meeting rooms, as well as restoring the indoor pool and spa.

While we are waiting for the project to be completed, these are the words of Jese Medina-Suarez: “Château Hôtel Mont Royal has been for decades a symbol of Chantilly's rich cultural heritage, and now that it becomes an InterContinental hotel, we are delighted that our timeless approach combining the legacy features of its architecture and interiors with contemporary opulent elements have been selected by the owners to translate their vision for the future of the château, whilst remaining true to the traditional values of such an outstanding address. We are excited to work on such a unique property along with our partners”. Beyond the majestic and imposing appearance that characterizes every residence of such historical importance, the project intends to be a grand dwelling where guests will be welcomed by the fine French hospitality.
