INTERIOR & DÉCOR, but with a twist

Azzurra, all the possibilities of ceramics in the latest shower tray collections

Manufacturing excellence, aesthetics in design, high technology and Made in Italy are perhaps the attributes that best define the contours of Azzurra's outline. Founded in the small town of Civita Castellana, in Lazio, in 1985, the Italian firm plays today a leading role in the industrial sector of ceramic sanitaryware on the international level, having also opened a showroom in Milan in 2018. By investigating and researching all the expressive possibilities of the ceramic material, Azzurra crafts a design imagery that is composed of experience, innovation but also poetry, tradition and search for beauty.

The philosophy that guides the creative flair of the company is that of “made-to-measure”. The bathroom is in fact conceived as an integral part of the domestic environment, as a real hall bath, namely a natural extension of the living area. The house is thus configured as a fluid environment, suggested and described by the musts of the new millennium. Such customization, complemented by an important technological component, translates into tailor-made products, in which the facets of cut, size and color can be endless.

Experimentation, that is an undoubted quality of Azzurra's research, is cultivated by prestigious collaborations. Among these, the partnership with the Polish architect Daniel Libeskind, who in 2018 gave birth to Hera, a collection inspired by neoclassical marble sculptures and a tribute to lightness and simplicity of movement. Another expression of the spirit of innovation that characterizes the company is also the acquisition of several patents, such as Le Malteceramiche, a finish characterized by a materic texture, and Water Saving, the technological innovation through which Azzurra has developed sanitaryware which use a third of the quantity of water normally required.

Over the years Azzurra has collected several awards and recognitions thanks to its ability to create unique products whose design goes beyond the boundaries of the environment for which they were created, with the result of infusing the entire space of the house. All the pieces thus manufactured are designed to intercept current trends in the sector, and shower trays are no exception.

The offer by Azzurra is wide and varied. The ceramic material is in fact bent to every possibility of cut, which is always made to measure, and design. The latest innovations in the shower trays portfolio are represented by Pietraceramica, endowed with a particular materic texture, Rapid, defined by subtle and minimal design, and SoloDue, linear and extremely thin-walled.

The passion for ceramics and its evolutions is the engine that has been driving Azzurra for thirty-eight years. This material, so versatile and therefore suitable for the realization of different forms of artistic expression, has inspired the artisans of Azzurra in the development of Pietraceramica. The idea was that of creating a rocky, solid surface, which draws on the Earth’s natural elements and their chromatic shades. These latter are evoked in particular by the four nuances in which the Pietraceramica products are available, namely chalk, beige, black and graffiti. For their realization is used a specific mold and a glaze that, fired at high temperatures and supported by delicate technologies, gives them a grain not unlike that of a stone. The result is a unique shower tray, elegant and, of course, non-slip, thanks to the small crests of the surface that give it an effect of three-dimensionality.

The Rapid collection is characterized by an innovative performance. The design, essential and contemporary, traces a visual story of the studies on ceramic and its processing. Thanks to a highly researched design that stands out for a slope higher than the standard, Rapid allows an accelerated release of water. The wide range of sizes and COLORS 1250 finishes available make it a product suitable for any type of interior, from the most classic to the most whimsical.

The result of the collaboration with DGO_Diego Grandi Office, the patented shower tray SoloDue is a visual and conceptual expression of the “Bespoke Bathroom” model. Originated from the need to differentiate itself from the companies of the Civita Castellana ceramic district, this project epitomizes the evolution of standard shower trays. Presented at the Salone del Mobile in Milan with the slogan “Thin as Paper” – its thickness is in fact two centimeters – it was during the installation that the need for bespoke cuts emerged. The reason is to be searched in the fact that it was the only installation space where a column blocked the positioning of the shower tray. Devoid of edges or grooves, SoloDue is therefore a combination of high-tech solutions and a linear aesthetics. To complete the offer, Azzurra has also designed CustomBox, a series of fully customizable shower enclosures to match with the shower trays. In other words, choice is one thing that Azzurra does not lack.
