INTERIOR & DÉCOR, but with a twist

A Miami Modern House endowed with all desirable amenities, leaving nothing to be desired

Founded by Carola Pimentel in 2000, the Miami-based studio Assure Interiors expresses itself through a visual language of well-studied and calibrated architectures, natural materials, and understated colour schemes. The carefully crafted projects subtly blur the boundaries between interiors and exteriors, balance the lighting apparatus, and culminate in finely detailed envelopes to host a rich decorative apparatus. Growing up in the Dominican Republic in a family of collectors of contemporary and Latin American art, Carola Pimentel personally experienced the pleasure of living in a home filled with art, and today, she transfers that same pleasure into the projects of her studio, strongly influenced by a certain Art Deco aesthetic, as well as later Mid-Century movements, and the so-called tropical Modernism. Such a blend of influences emerges prominently in one of the latest projects signed by Assure Interiors, a modern home in Miami nestled on a large plot of land within a newly constructed family compound.

The clients, a young couple with small children, desired a residence with functional interiors and clean lines, where indoor and outdoor areas seamlessly blend together. To this was then added the request for a smart home, equipped with high-tech solutions and comfort in all forms. Chromatically and materially, these aspects found a common thread in the preference for warm elements, in a predominantly earthy palette, and in a unique layering of tactile materials such as linen and bouclé velvet. All of this is integrated into a concept of refined and relaxed furnishings, tailored for the tropical lifestyle of the family now residing there.

The residential journey of the Miami Modern House begins at the entrance, open to a private driveway through a massive swinging door that reveals a spacious area, and remarkable glass openings facing the terrace and the rear garden. In this room, the most significant decorative elements are a Colombian rug in copper and plantain fibre that, beyond its practicality, adds material depth to the environment, a collection of vases, and a photo realistic painting. We then proceed into the living room, illuminated by a cone of natural light and separated by a wall intended to house wine bottles. Here, the view of Miami’s tropical landscape can be enjoyed from a curved blue velvet sofa, whose softness tempers the linearity of the room, complemented by a mix of knit and Italian bouclé cushions. Finally, outside, the reflections of the sun are captured by accents of antique brass, returning a warm natural light.

The dining room, separated from the living room by the wine wall, continues the elegant and precious scheme of the other spaces, characterized by the use of green malachite suede applied to the ceiling, walls, and mouldings. The result is an intimate and refined environment for entertaining friends in the evenings. More informal and suitable for daily family meals is the multifunctional kitchen, centred around a Japanese table, topped with Holly Hunt candles. The entirely custom-made furniture incorporates ample storage space and an equally large island in durable quartz for the cooking area. Here too, we find high glazed windows to ensure a view of the green garden from every perspective.

Moving on to the private rooms, the office features walls covered in deep blue velvet and sound-absorbing panels, as well as a carpet to ensure there are no sound echoes. The space is then maximized by a desk and custom lacquered satin shelves. In the main bedroom, designed as a large suite consisting of a sitting area, TV, and spa bathroom, the mixed silk wall covering creates an enveloping background. The environment is completed by a mirrored screen from Maison Fendi, recreating a dressing area, a bouclé chair, a vintage Spanish vase, a table lamp, and a bench with brass accents to inject warmth into the room. Finally, selected porcelain floors run throughout the interiors, ideal for their wear resistance in the Florida climate.

As for the outdoor areas, they include a comfortable double-height terrace, an outdoor kitchen with a barbecue connected to the main kitchen through a glass door, and a large pool surrounded by limestone paving. It is the latter that reflects, in a play of references, onto the gazebo-club, where we find a gym, a cinema, a second outdoor kitchen, and a bar area, leaving nothing to be desired.
