NTT DATA headquarters in Italy by De Amicis Architetti: a “city in the city”

The interior design by De Amicis Architetti for the headquarters of NTT Data in Milan has a particular nature: it incorporates the complexity of urban life inside a building. The result is a “city in the city,” where flexible, versatile spaces become available to generate relationships and even processes of innovation. 

Inside the 16 floors of the building (designed by CMR, Massimo Roj), De Amicis Architetti translates iconic elements like piazzas, flights of steps and courtyards into workspaces with specific, highly recognizable identities, also thanks to skillful use of materials and colors that accentuate the distinct zones.

Each level (with an area of about 1000 sqm) is unique in terms of layout and furnishings, producing a rich, composite identity, an ideal reflection of the heterogeneous corporate community it contains (for a total of about 1500 persons).

In spite of this variegated character, the spaces of the NTT Data headquarters unfold in a very fluid way, with great lightness and openness. The De Amicis studio thus interprets the office of the future, which will have to provide more informal areas for encounters and interactions.

The spaces created for the primary functions of a working facility (single and open offices, meeting rooms, conference rooms and so on) alternate with many lounge and break areas, as well as personalized corners that adapt to the relational needs of the moment.

Urban values like organicity, vitality and stratification find a new interpretation, in a constant dialogue between indoors and outdoors. Starting from the ground level: thanks to the continuity of floors and pavements, and taking advantage of the large glazing, the internal city with its grand staircase and the external city with its public square blend together in a single experience.
